A Broken Heart

How can you be encouraged from a broken heart? At some point in our lives, we’ve all been there. We’ve had our heart broken. It usually happens when somebody we have romantic feelings for lets us down in a big way. But it can happen when anybody lets us down. Somebody you trust, let’s you down and breaks your heart. It may not even be intentional. Life happens and your expectations of the way things should be are shattered. Your heart is broken.
The bible says that God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. “That’s great, but how does that help me?” First and foremost, you need to know that God loves you. How does that help? It helps you understand that the God of the universe cares about your broken heart. Sometimes, it helps just to know that somebody cares about what your going through. God does. He cares. He wants to heal your broken heart.
First, know that God cares.
Second, go to God. Rest in his presence. “Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.” A broken heart is about as heavy of a load there is. Allow God to take the load from you. His load is light and easy to bear.
A lot of times, we want to pull back and wallow in our heartbreak. We want to throw a pity party for ourselves. I completely understand that. I know why we do that. It’s easy. We throw on some depressing music and just lay there (at least I do). We don’t want to move. We shut the world out. As counter intuitive as this sounds, don’t do that. Get with others. Get around others who care for you.
Heartbreak is only for a season. God uses time to heal those hurts and wounds. Hang in there. You will get through. You will come out on the other side stronger and ready to encourage others in their heartbreaks.
Know that God cares
Go to God
Get with others who care about you
It’s not a magic formula. It’s just some helpful things you can do. You can live an encouraged life even through the heartbreak. And when you come through it, you’ll be able to encourage somebody else!
